Etwas über 40 Vertreter aus Medien, Wissenschaft und Politik diskutierten Ende September auf Einladung des für Asien zuständigen KAS-Medienprogramms, des Internationalen Instituts für Journalismus (IIJ) von InWEnt und des KAS-Programms „Politikdialog in Asien“ auf Bali über Tendenzen und Herausforderungen für die „Politische Kommunikation in Asien“. Im Mittelpunkt standen die Chancen und Risiken beim Einsatz von Facebook, SMS und Twitter. Als Beispiel diente der diesjährige Wahlkampf auf den Philippinen.

Thailands Premierminister verspricht mehr Pressefreiheit

Thailands Premierminister Abhisit Vejjajiva will die Presse- und Meinungsfreiheit in seinem Land stärken. Das hat der Regierungschef auf einer Konferenz der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Bangkok angekündigt. An der Veranstaltung nahmen hochrangige Medienvertreter aus ganz Asien teil. Anlass war das zehnjährige Bestehen des Asia News Network (ANN).
