The Central European Initiative (CEI) and the South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), in special partnership with the Media Program South East Europe of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), have announced the winners of the "CEI SEEMO Award for Outstanding Merits in Investigative Journalism 2017": Victor Mosneag in the section "Professional Journalists" and Yevheniia Motorevska in the section "Young Professional Journalists".

Every fourth Bulgarian sees Fake News daily

REPRESENTATIVE SURVEY COMMISSIONED BY KONRAD-ADENAUER-STIFTUNG: DISINFORMATION IS A RELEVANT POLITICAL ISSUE IN BULGARIA

Many Bulgarians know what ‘fake news’ is: 72 percent of the respondents have been confronted with false reporting in the media, 25 percent see ‘fake news’ about political topics even daily. This is the result of a representative survey commissioned by the KAS Media Program South East Europe among more than 1,000 citizens over 18 years. The respondents have also been asked about their confidence in international institutions and countries. The EU enjoys higher trust than Russia.

Call for applications open

The call for applications for the Summer School of Investigative Reporting 2017 has started. The seminar will take place from 20 until 26 August in Mlini, Croatia. Host organisations are the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) and the Media Program South East Europe of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.

Internships

Media freedom ranking with slight improvements in individual Balkan countries

Christian Spahr, KAS: "Still poor framework conditions for media"

Media freedom has improved numerically in six states of South East Europe. Three countries have been deteriorating and one country has maintained its position. These are the results of the new ranking of the non-governmental organisation "Reporters Without Borders" (RWB). Romania and Bosnia and Herzegovina achieved the best scores according to RWB (ranks 46 and 65 out of 180 countries worldwide), Macedonia and Bulgaria have the worst (places 111 and 109).

Call for proposals is open

The Central European Initiative (CEI) and the South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), in special partnership with the Media Program South East Europe of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), have opened the Call for Applications 2017 of the CEI SEEMO Award for Outstanding Merits in Investigative Journalism. The Call is divided into two categories: "Professional journalists" (4.000 EUR) and "Young professional journalists" (1.000 EUR).

Conference based on findings of KAS book on journalism education

During the conference "Requirements for modern journalism education" on 28th March in Sofia outcomes of the KAS survey among journalism students in South East Europe will be presented.
