Globalization is constantly going on, attended by denationalization and transnationalisation of societies, economics, politics and culture. National policies cannot longer solve many transnational problems like climate change, criminal or illegal migration. The loss of national sovereignty raises the question: How will transnational cooperation look like in future? This aspect can be exemplified at the Asian regionalism, important examples therefore are the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the Eurasian Union. Against this background, the research of the role of Myanmar in this process is very fascinating: What defines a region as basis of the relevant unions and which influences have states like Myanmar? Why insert some nation states for the formation and further development of institutional forms of cooperation, while others try to enforce their aims differently? Which effective player quality has Myanmar, which empower the state to resolute action within the bounds of regional association on the international stage?
