Advocacy and Human Rights Workshop Group 1: Erongo and Kunene regions

ECSO Project

The ECSO project is hosting a workshop with 26 participants from the Erongo and Kunene regions from Monday 14 July to Friday 18 July 2025 in Windhoek. The aim of this workshop is to empower CSOs to become strong advocates on issues affecting their communities and to better equip them to advocate for the rights of those most vulnerable. The workshop objective is to engage participants to effectively interrogate the legislation that is aimed at protecting the rights of all Namibian citizens.

Human Rights Workshop & Community Engagement Rundu

Office of the Ombudsman

In collaboration with the Office of the Ombudsman and KAS, and in support by the Ministry of Justice, Office of the Governor Kavango East Region and other key stakeholders, this three-day community engagement and Human Rights workshop aims to inform and provide a platform of exchange with community and key stakeholders on access to human rights, as well as available legal services, the mandates of both the Ombudsman and Ministry of Justice, challenges, as well as relevant legislation unique to the experiences of the region. With the aid of the Security Sector, key representatives will also use this platform to outline means to combat human and child trafficking, as well as GBV. Protection Orders as well as Childcare Protection also constitute part of the topics of the engagement, together with a focus on land rights.

KAS-TEP Session 2 Otjiwarongo

Strategic Planning, Project Management & Change Management

Session 2 of the annual KAS Talent Empowerment Programme, hosted in Otjiwarongo for four days, aims to capacitate 16 selected youth from Civil Society with Strategic Planning, Project Management & Change Management skills. The sessions further aim to facilitate networking and strengthen collaborations in Namibia's civil society sector.

KAS-TEP Session 1 Swakopmund

KAS Talent Empowerment Programme

As part of the 7th Intake of the KAS-TEP Programme, an annual civil society capacity building initiative, this year's first session will kick off in Swakopmund. The training will focus on equipping 15 carefully selected youth representatives of civil society across Namibia, with leadership skills, emotional intelligence and critical thinking. The successful candidates will also have an opportunity to introduce their organisations and network extensively during the 5-day intervention.

Second Public Dialogue Karas Region

On Friday 09 May 2025 the ECSO project is facilitating the second public dialogue in the //Karas region with the aim to bring together CSOs and Stakeholders to discuss and engage on the topic “The Role of CSOs in promoting voter registration and participation in regional and local government elections”. A topic that is of great interest and importance to the community of the //Karas region.

Module 1: Operational and Administration Management; Module 2: Financial Literacy; and Module 3: Youth Engagement and Empowerment. Furthermore, these visits serve as mentoring sessions for any additional support these CSOs may require.

Youth in Politics Windhoek

Dialogue

KAS hosted the first round of Youth in Politics discussion on 25 April 2025 at the KAS Office in Windhoek. Representatives from political parties participated in the discussion centred on contemporary and the future driven Youth Agenda and digital tools as a source of power & influence. This ongoing dialogue platform aims to prepare & shape future leaders for sustainable governance.

The goal of these meetings is aimed at visiting each CSO individual to assess their adaption of trainings received for Modules 1 to 3. These are Module 1: Operational and Administration Management, Module 2: Financial Literacy and, Module 3: Youth Engagement and Empowerment. Furthermore, these visits also include mentoring sessions for any additional support the targeted CSOs may require.

Monitoring & Mentoring with CSOs and Outjo Community Dialogue

Last week, from 7 to 11 April 2025, the ECSO project conducted a monitoring and mentoring visit to CSOs in the Kunene region. The aim of these individual visits was to assess the #CSOs progress and growth since joining the project in 2023. These efforts contribute toward ensuring long-term #sustainability of these organisations. On 10 April 2025 the second community dialogue was also hosted in Outjo with 32 participants from CSOs, community members as well as representatives from the Kunene Regional Council and the Police. The dialogue focused on the topic "The Role of Social Workers in the Community and the need for Community Youth Centres".

Graduation Ceremony

ECSO Project

On 28 March 2025 the ECSO project will be hosting a graduation ceremony for members of CSOs from the Erongo, Kunene and //Karas regions who have successfully completed and passed the first three modules of the project. Module 1: Operational and Administration Management, Module 2: Financial Literacy and Module 3: Youth Engagement and Empowerment. The ceremony serves as a celebration of the CSOs' achievements with around 55 representatives to receive their certificates. The event will be attended by the EU Delegation, ECSO project team, and the Mayor of Swakopmund His Worship Hon. Blasius !Goraseb.

National Disability Week in Namibia

Inclusivity in Namibia

KAS Namibia-Angola together with the National Disability Council of Namibia (NDCN) on 05th and 06th March shared insights on the occasion of the National Disability Week which took place in the Oshana Region, Northern Namibia. The event was attended by key ministries, the National Disability Council of Namibia and other key stakeholders. All relevant national Organisations for People with Disabilities were present to exchange challenges and way forward. The event highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships, accountability, transparency and efficiency when developing and implementing sustainable and impactful programmes for persons with disabilities. KAS Namibia together with key stakeholders continue to collaborate to promote inclusivity and favorable regulatory frameworks for the sake of access to services, information and employment opportunities for People with Disabilities. 

World Press Freedom Day 2021

The Sidelines

On 3 May 2021, the media industry globally joined the host country Namibia to celebrate World Press Freedom Day 2021, which coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration - well known for paving ways for free speech, media freedom and media pluralism in Africa and the world. In celebrating world press freedom day, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and UNESCO Global and local offices have led celebrations by hosting a number of events prior, during and after the global commemorations.
