Advocacy and Human Rights Workshop Group 1: Erongo and Kunene regions

ECSO Project

The ECSO project is hosting a workshop with 26 participants from the Erongo and Kunene regions from Monday 14 July to Friday 18 July 2025 in Windhoek. The aim of this workshop is to empower CSOs to become strong advocates on issues affecting their communities and to better equip them to advocate for the rights of those most vulnerable. The workshop objective is to engage participants to effectively interrogate the legislation that is aimed at protecting the rights of all Namibian citizens.

Human Rights Workshop & Community Engagement Rundu

Office of the Ombudsman

In collaboration with the Office of the Ombudsman and KAS, and in support by the Ministry of Justice, Office of the Governor Kavango East Region and other key stakeholders, this three-day community engagement and Human Rights workshop aims to inform and provide a platform of exchange with community and key stakeholders on access to human rights, as well as available legal services, the mandates of both the Ombudsman and Ministry of Justice, challenges, as well as relevant legislation unique to the experiences of the region. With the aid of the Security Sector, key representatives will also use this platform to outline means to combat human and child trafficking, as well as GBV. Protection Orders as well as Childcare Protection also constitute part of the topics of the engagement, together with a focus on land rights.

KAS-TEP Session 1 Otjiwarongo

Leadership and Understanding Your Role in Democracy

The first session of the 2024 KAS-TEP Programme officially commences on 24 June 2024 in Otjiwarongo with an Intake of 19 selected participants. The beneficiaries represent youth who are active in community development and civil society in Namibia. The 5-day training focuses on honing leadership skills and equipping participants with the capacity to understand their active role as civil society representatives, in strengthening democratic structures in Namibia.

MSME Digital Bootcamp Keetmanshoop

Keetmanshoop

This training initiative hosted by the Namibia Investment Promotion & Development Board (NIPDB) in collaboration with KAS and facilitated by the Namibia College of Open Learning (NAMCOL), aims to offer training to roughly 20 SME participants located in the Kharas region. The goal is to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and expertise to establish, cultivate, and strengthen their SME enterprises with newly acquired digital skills.

Green Hydrogen Industry Incubation Forum

Deep Dive Into Technical Aspects of Green Hydrogen Construction Opportunities

A one-day comprehensive information sharing Forum hosted in Windhoek by CIF in partnership with REIAoN and in cooperation with KAS. Sponsored by key industry players, Hyphen Green Hydrogen Pty Ltd will provide technical insights and place the spotlight on the opportunities available for Namibian based businesses as part of the mega project. The main aim of the forum is to ensure enhanced engagement by industry body participants, whilst the objective is to gage at least 100 members of the Construction lndustry Federation (ClF) and Renewable Energy lndustry Association (RElAoN) jointly, as well as selected non-ClF or REIAoN members who represent an active and credible construction or installation business from across Namibia. The Forum is hosted in Windhoek and focuses on the in-depth technical aspects tailored for an audience of Namibia's renewable and construction industry experts and captains of industry interested in understanding potential Green Hydrogen construction opportunities.

Presidential Candidates' Discussion

Public Engagement

Voter apathy, and poor voter turnout can be attributed to a myriad of complex and inter-related issues, of which some are the lack of awareness, insufficient information on candidates and their related manifestos and party programmes. Hence, KAS are organising a Presidential Candidates' Discussion slated for Thursday 23 May 2024 at the Hilton Hotel at 17:00, to allow the public to engage and hear from Presidential candidates hopefuls. It is a platform to share presidential candidates' intentions and stance on key policy issues, as a way to contribute to the general vigour and robustness of democratic and political discourse.

ECSO Project Community Dialogue and Information Session

Erongo region

The ECSO project team will be hosting two community engagements in the coming week in Erongo region. The project which is co-funded by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and the European Union (EU) and co-implemented by KAS and Women's Action for Development (WAD) aims to strengthen and provide a platform for engagement between CSOs in Erongo region and their regional and local authorities. On Wednesday 21 May 2024 the project team will be hosting a community dialogue with CSOs and regional and local authorities present with some community members to discuss two topics of importance, "Alcohol and Drug Abuse: How the multiple bars had affected the community" and the second topic, "Resources in Erongo, how can CSOs benefit from resources specifically the mines?" The hope is that this one day engagement will lead to fruitful engagement on the chosen topics. On 22 May 2024 the project team will host an information session between CSOs and regional and local authorities to provide a platform for relationship building for the benefit of the people of the region. Both events aim to foster collaboration between the various parties.

MSME Digital Bootcamp Rehoboth

Session 1

KAS in collaboration with the NIPDB, will be implementing and facilitating the second phase of Digital MSME Bootcamps in partnership with the Namibian College of Open Learning (NAMCOL) at their regional based Computer-Based Learning Centres (CBLC) and affiliated teacher resource centres, in the following towns; Rehoboth, Keetmanshoop and Eenhana, with the aim to upskill at least 63 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with basic computer skills and enhance their efficiency, productivity and competitiveness in the market, as well as adoption of technological innovation. The second phase aims to to upscale at least 55% of participating MSMEs from their initial size to the next phase(s) by 2028 and further to strengthen coordination of smart partnerships and assist the NIPDB and NAMCOL in achiev-ing targeted initiatives under their priority sectors.

ECSO Project Community Engagement with civil society organisations and stakeholders

//Karas Region

The KAS and European Union co-funded ECSO project team will be in //Karas region for two community engagement events with civil society organisations and stakeholders. On 23rd April the KAS and WAD team will be hosting a community dialogue on the topic "Development in the Community: Creating income generating activities from Regional Resources". On 24 April an information session with CSOs and stakeholders will take place in an effort to build relationships in the region.

National Disability Week in Namibia

Inclusivity in Namibia

KAS Namibia-Angola together with the National Disability Council of Namibia (NDCN) on 05th and 06th March shared insights on the occasion of the National Disability Week which took place in the Oshana Region, Northern Namibia. The event was attended by key ministries, the National Disability Council of Namibia and other key stakeholders. All relevant national Organisations for People with Disabilities were present to exchange challenges and way forward. The event highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships, accountability, transparency and efficiency when developing and implementing sustainable and impactful programmes for persons with disabilities. KAS Namibia together with key stakeholders continue to collaborate to promote inclusivity and favorable regulatory frameworks for the sake of access to services, information and employment opportunities for People with Disabilities. 

World Press Freedom Day 2021

The Sidelines

On 3 May 2021, the media industry globally joined the host country Namibia to celebrate World Press Freedom Day 2021, which coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration - well known for paving ways for free speech, media freedom and media pluralism in Africa and the world. In celebrating world press freedom day, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and UNESCO Global and local offices have led celebrations by hosting a number of events prior, during and after the global commemorations.
