Details

In Nigeria, more than 300 ethnic groups live together; half of them are Muslims, the other half are Christians of different religious denominations. Within the last ten month, ca. 1700 people died in riots. Besides the Niger Delta, especially Jos, Maiduguri, Bauchi, Kano and Kaduna are trouble spots.

The multi-causal violence, a mixture of differences in economic interests, ethnic prejudices and religious-ideological tensions, leads to repeating, fast escalating unrest.

The chairman of the German bishops' conference, archbishop Robert Zollitsch, and his delegation discuss with the archbishop of Kaduna and leading deputies of Islam in Nigeria about possibilities of conflict prevention and restriction. These ca. 200 participants will also be actively included with questions and theses.

The discussion is lead by reverend Father Matthew Kukah, who is highly respected within all denominations.
