The meeting aims at bringing together personnel of security agencies and civil society to dialogue on the relationship that exists between them. The heightened insecurity, radicalization and other forms of criminality in the North-East region with its attendant increase in security surveillance, has brought personnel of security agencies in close and constant contact with the civil populace, thereby increasing tensions and confrontations. Our intervention is to enhance cooperation and understanding between security agencies and civilian citizens through dialogue, information sharing and enlightenment to promote synergy towards combating crime. The major goal of the town hall meeting is to expose personnel of security agencies to the importance of a good and respectful cooperation with citizens and respect for human rights, while civilian citizens are enabled to understand their role in cooperating with and providing credible information to security agencies. The Town Hall Meeting is part of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s support to the Security Sector Reform in Nigeria by promoting productive dialogue, information and experience sharing between security agencies and citizens, in order to increase the cooperation between citizens and the security forces.
