Ethnic and religious conflicts are frequent in Nigeria. In the federal state of Plateau, with the capital city Jos, the state of emergency was even temporarily exclaimed. The conflicts were roused again and again through a lurid reporting in the media. Unscrupulous people are taking advantages of escalating conflicts.

In this training, journalists of the printed and electronic media get to know the ethical standards of their profession the consequences of their reporting are pointed out. Their headlines could take other people's lives.

Techniques and methods will be obtained how to recognize tendentious reporting and to report on the one hand in a truthful, but on the other hand, not in a further escalating way.

This event is part of a series of trainings and forums which has already taken place and will be continued in Ibadan and Owerri.

The trainings are intensive courses with their own training-manual. In the forums journalist regularly meet for further education and discussion, also with the public.
