Expert talk
Details
Nigeria is on its way to establish democracy after years of military rule. During the elections in 2007 there were some difficulties but not as violent as recently in Kenya. Often just the mass media really escalate such conflicts by reporting in a very sensation-seeking way. The freedom of the media is indispensable in a democracy, but this is not enough: responsibility and a good quality of content are necessary, as well.
These questions shall be answered in this event. One of the main speakers is the director-general of "Deutsche Welle", who will present, among other things, the new program "Learning by Ear".
"Learning by Ear" is a substantial interactive education program of the "Deutschen Welle" for young Africans south of the Sahara region. It will be broadcast in different languages in the radio and accompanied in the internet. Themes are i.e. HIV/AIDS, education and work, globalisation, civil engagement and the possibility of political and social participation. The listeners can ask question and make suggestions to the program by sms, e-mail and/or telephone.
