Details

The training workshop took place at the training college of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abeokuta from November 4 – 8, 2013 with about 100 officers of the Corps in attendance. The training workshop was declared open by the zonal commandant of NSCDC, represented by Assistant Commandant Oladapo. The Country Representative of KAS, Mrs. Hildegard Behrendt-Kigozi, expressed her support and best wishes for the success of the Workshop.

The concepts of peace, conflict and violence were the first issues the trainers explained, followed by gender and human rights issues in conflict management. These issues have become very important for the officers of the NSCDC because of the role they play in maintaining security and peace while on duty. While performing their duties, they still need to keep a human face, by not trampling upon the rights of the citizens they are out to protect. The idea of citizen in uniform was explained and recommended to the participants by the Country Representative of KAS, Mrs. Behrendt-Kigozi.

Dr. Naomi Akpan-Ita, the leader of IMPACT for Change and Dr. Faleti, Uni. Of Ibadan conducted most of the training.
