Bei den am 24. März 2013 stattgefundenen Kommunalwahlen in der Republik Mazedonien gingen die Parteien der Regierungskoalition VMRO-DPMNE (Innere Mazedonische Revolutionäre Organisation - demokratische Partei für mazedonische nationale Einheit) von Ministerpräsident Nikola Gruevski und die albanische Demokratische Integrationsunion (DUI) von Ali Ahmeti bei einer Wahlbeteiligung von knapp 67 % als Sieger hervor. Ersten Angaben zufolge von internationalen und nationalen Beobachtern verliefen die Wahlen, bis auf sehr wenige Ausnahmen, ruhig und demokratisch.

Voracious for the long awaited beginning of negotiations with the EU and an EU membership, the Republic of Macedonia has been working also on the progress in the field of gender equality. In that direction, the new policy brief analyzes the legislative progress that the country has achieved in promoting gender equality and reviews the accomplishment of the EU gender equality targets by the country. In doing so, the paper examines the Macedonian progress and compares the achievement of targeted goals and briefly assesses the implementation of specific policies.
