Energy and Climate Policy - Challenges of sustainable development in Europe and on a local level

The topic of the new edition of the quarterly Politicka Misla is “Energy and Climate Policy - Challenges of sustainable development in Europe and on a local level”. It deals with the current situation of the energy and climate policy in the Republic of Macedonia and Europe. In Eastern Europe, where after the political transformation phase societies dealt with other issues as environment and climate, it becomes now clear that a special effort has to be undertaken in order to raise and increase the awareness of environmental and energy policy issues.

The energy policy of Macedonia in context of the EU Integration

The publication describes the situation of Macedonias energy sector in the context of the approximation to EU standards. The analysis is the result of a research work about the conditions and situation of the energy policy in the Republic of Macedonia organized by the NGO Front 21/42 as part of a project realized with the assistance of the EU. The publication can be obtained in the KAS office Skopje in Macedonian and Albanian language.

Kosovo erhält volle Souveränität

KFOR-Truppen und EULEX-Helfer bleiben aber trotzdem weiterhin im Land.

Als jüngster Staat Europas wird der Kosovo seine volle Souveränität erhalten. Das wurde am 2. Juli 2012 in Wien von der Mehrheit der EU-Länder sowie den USA und der Türkei beschlossen. Der österreichische Außenminister und Vizekanzler, Michael Spindelegger (ÖVP), verkündete, dass mit diesem Beschluss die so genannte beaufsichtigte Unabhängigkeit des Kovosos ende. KFOR-Truppen und EULEX-Helfer bleiben aber trotzdem weiterhin im Land.

Media and freedom of expression

The topic of the new edition of the quarterly Politiska Misla is 'Media and freedom of expression'. It deals with the current situation of the media landscape in the Republic of Macedonia. Democracy does not exist without a free and independent media. The right for the freedom of expression that is established in modern constitutions needs to be defended constantly. In this new edition of the quarterly state officials and experts in the field of media in Macedonia are discussing their views on the challenges and perspectives of the country’s media landscape.

Spannungen in Mazedonien

Am Vorabend des orthodoxen Osterfestes wurden in der mazedonischen Hauptstadt Skopje fünf Männer, mazedonisch-slawischer Herkunft, kaltblütig von Unbekannten ermordet. Die Tat überschattet das ohnehin sehr gespannte Verhältnis zwischen den verschiedenen Ethnien in Mazedonien. Es zeigt deutlich, wie viel Konfliktpotential sich aufgestaut hat. Die Polizei hat am vergangenen Wochenende groß angelegte Razzien in Skopje durchgeführt. Dabei wurden 20 Personen, denen ein radikal islamischer Hintergrund nachgesagt wird, verhaftet und sowohl Waffen als auch Propagandamaterial sicher gestellt.

Orthodoxes Osterfest von Gewalt überschattet

Das Wochenende des orthodoxen Osterfestes in Mazedonien wurde von Gewalt überschattet. Am vergangenen Freitag fand man in einem Stadtteil von Skopje fünf Leichen von Mazedoniern slawischen Ursprungs. Bei den Getöteten handelt es sich nach Angaben der Polizei um vier Schüler im Alter von 18 - 20 Jahren und einen 45 Jahre alten Mann.

The Future of the Euro : Challenges for financial stability

This new issue of our quarterly “Political Thought” offers some interesting “input” for the analysis of the situation in Europe and what it means for the financial stability of our continent. The authors examine the issue of the financial and economic crisis from different point of views and give an oversight of what happened so far and what could be done to fight the crisis. The different articles reflect the current political developments offering space for a public debate.

Vereinbarungen zur regionalen Kooperation zwischen Kosovo und Serbien

Am 24. Februar 2012, noch rechtzeitig vor dem nächsten EU-Gipfel, haben Serbien und Kosovo unter Vermittlung der Europäischen Union eine Vereinbarung über die regionale Kooperation abgeschlossen. Der Streit über die Anerkennung der Unabhängigkeit des Kosovos wurde damit nicht beigelegt, aber Vereinbarungen zur Regelung von Kosovos Auftreten bei internationalen Verhandlungen und Grenzkontrollen getroffen.

Lustrationsprozess in Mazedonien wieder auf dem Prüfstand

Das mazedonische Verfassungsgericht hat am 25.01.2012 dreizehn Artikel des Gesetzes über die Festsetzung von zusätzlichen Bedingungen bei der Ausübung einer öffentlichen Funktion (Lustrationsgesetz) vorläufig ausgesetzt. Diese gesetzlichen Regelungen betreffen den Zeitraum der Gültigkeit des Gesetzes sowie auch die Gruppen von Bürgern, die mit dem Gesetz erfasst werden sollen und somit einer Prüfung ihrer eventuellen unrechtmäßigen Zusammenarbeit mit den ehemaligen Geheimdiensten unterliegen.

Strategies for Regional Energy Security

The articles in this issue of Politička misla refl ect the ongoing discussion on climate change, energy strategies and environment protection and they show that environmental and climate protection is not just a regulatory issue. It is fi rst and foremost a responsibility to protect the whole of creation.
