Why it matters?

On May 12, 2021. online discussion entitled Religion in Education - Why it matters? was held. This discussion was organized in digital format, through the Zoom platform, by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in collaboration with the Association of Professors of Ethics in Religions. Thirty participants, professors on the subject of Ethics in Religions, took part and it was a good opportunity to hear their views on the benefits of having religious education and the status of the subject itself in anticipation of the announced reforms in education.

9 May – Europe Day

On 27 April 2021, an online student debate on the topic "I have something to say about my future" was held on the occasion of 9 May, Europe Day. KAS organised the event in cooperation with the European Movement in the Republic of North Macedonia and the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of North Macedonia. With 40 students from several universities in the country participating, the debate was an excellent opportunity to hear what kind of society young people want to live in.

On 16 April, KAS organized an online discussion on the topic "Club of Youth or Club for Youth? Where Should the Focus be?" in cooperation with the Parliamentary Club for Youth Issues and Policies. Wann werden die Gespräche mit Skopje weitergeführt?

Die Hoffnungen in Nordmazedonien auf eine zügige Weiterführung der Gespräche mit Sofia nach den Parlamentswahlen vom 4. April scheint sich nicht zu erfüllen. Damit sinkt auch die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass Bulgarien seine Blockade der EU-Beitrittsverhandlungen bis zum Sommer aufheben wird.

North Macedonia’s accession process to the EU and the role of the European Parliament

On 15th of April KAS and IDSCS organized the online conference titled “North Macedonia’s accession process to the EU and the role of the European Parliament”.

The conference aimed to encourage the discussion on the role and participation of legislatures in the process of accession to the European Union, with particular reference to the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, and its relationship with the European Parliament.

On 13 April Daniel Braun, Official Representative of KAS, met with President of VMRO-DPMNE, Hristijan Mickoski and International Secretaries, Timco Mucunski and Vladimir Gjorchev.

At the meeting, many current issues with which the country is facing were discussed, as the situation with the Covid-19 pandemic, the role of the Opposition in the Assembly and the EU perspective of the country. At the meeting, it was concluded that the cooperation between KAS and the party VMRO-DPMNE will remain at a high level and be further expanded.

Religion and the protection of Environment

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation in cooperation with the Institute for Political Research - Skopje and the Internet portal "Religija.mk" are continuing the project to monitor citizens' perception of religion and its role in multicultural societies.

Implications for the global role of Europe and the EU enlargement

On 31 March, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and the Institute for Social Research MK91 conducted the webinar “Transatlantic Relations under the New US Administration: Implications for the Global Role of Europe and the EU Enlargement”. The event offered experts and officials an opportunity to exchange views and to share their expectations regarding the developments in this area. The webinar was attended by more than 50 participants, including ambassadors, MPs, representatives of NGOs, international organisations and academia, as well as young politicians, KAS scholars and students.
