Energy poverty in Macedonia (Macedonian Version)

Policy Brief

Energy poverty has challenged the already socially fragile Macedonia on its way to EU integration. This paper analyzes the state of energy poverty in Macedonia and the policies tackling it in order to draft policy recommendations for their improvement to the respective stakeholders. Tackling energy poverty is important in order to bring the country on a sustainable path.

The break-up of Yugoslavia was characterised by bloody wars, which turned the former brother nations into bitter enemies. This is still affecting the democratic development in the majority of the Yugoslav successor states and the relationships between them. Twenty years after the ICTY was set up, the Tribunal is still playing an important role for the democratic development of the societies that have emerged from the former Yugoslavia and for shaping the relationships between them.

Ersten Angaben zufolge von internationalen und nationalen Beobachtern verliefen die Wahlen, bis auf sehr wenige Ausnahmen, ruhig und demokratisch.

Voracious for the long awaited beginning of negotiations with the EU and an EU membership, the Republic of Macedonia has been working also on the progress in the field of gender equality. In that direction, the new policy brief analyzes the legislative progress that the country has achieved in promoting gender equality and reviews the accomplishment of the EU gender equality targets by the country. In doing so, the paper examines the Macedonian progress and compares the achievement of targeted goals and briefly assesses the implementation of specific policies.
