Auf beiden Seiten schwindet der Glaube an eine gewaltfreie Lösung

Befunde der gemeinsamen israelisch-palästinensischen Meinungsumfrage von Ende Dezember 2012

Die Ende 2012 veröffentliche gemeinsame Israelisch-Palästinensische Umfrage verdient aus zwei Gründen besonderes Interesse: Zum einen dokumentiert sie die Nachwirkungen der gegen den Raketenbeschuss aus Gaza gerichteten israelischen Operation „Säule der Verteidigung“ (14.-21. November 2012) auf das Meinungsklima bei Israelis und Palästinensern; zum anderen gibt sie Auskunft über das Maß der Kompromissbereitschaft in beiden Gesellschaften zu Beginn des Jahres, in dem der 20. Jahrestag der Oslo-Vereinbarungen begangen wird.

Two major developments preceded the conduct of the poll: (1) the Gaza war between Hamas and Israel followed by a ceasefire, a visit by Khalid Mish’al to the Gaza Strip, and Hamas’ celebration of victory in the war on the occasion of its launch, (2) the submission of a Palestinian request for the upgrading of the status of Palestine to a non-member state at the UN, the vote at the General Assembly on the request with 138 countries voting in favor, and the return of president Mahmoud Abbas to the West Bank amid public celebrations in support of his UN bid.

The US presidential elections on November 6, 2012 have been closely monitored by Palestinians and widely discussed in the street. Most of the Palestinians believe that the re-election of Barack Obama sends a more positive message to the Palestinians than had Mitt Romney been elected.

Wahlergebnisse der palästinensischen Kommunalwahlen 2012

Am Samstag, dem 20. Oktober 2012 fanden zum ersten Mal seit 2004/05 Kommunalwahlen in den Palästinensischen Gebieten statt. Auf Grund des Boykotts der Hamas und israelischen Restriktionen fanden die Wahlen nicht im Gazastreifen bzw. Ost-Jerusalem statt. Aber auch im Westjordanland fanden die Kommunalwahlen effektiv in lediglich 93 Gebietskörperschaften statt, da die Sitze in 181 Gemeinden wegen mangelnder Konkurrenz mittels Akklamation vergeben wurden und in 78 Gemeinden wegen des Fehlens von Listen Wahlen erst am 24. November durchgeführt werden können.
