Local Election Workshop in Soreef (South of Hebron)

The Institute for Community Partnership (ICP) in cooperation with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Ramallah has opened its training program democracy in the Palestinian Institutions and the Electoral system, financed by the German Development Service (GIZ) on Saturday August 20th, 2011 in Surif Women’s Club, Southern Hebron.

Mr. Elias Awad, Project manager at KAS Ramallah opened the Workshop while he

introduces the KAS and the aims of the Workshop. The KAS is independent but affiliated to the Christian democrats (CDU) the party of Chancellor Angela Merkel, the first female Chancellor of Germany. Therefore, KAS motivated women to participate in elections and political life. In particular, 50% of the Palestinian society is females, which makes their participation very essential to express their opinion. These women should be enabled by the Workshop to form their own opinion and to express this opinion in public. Besides, the aim of the Workshops is to motivate the women to use their franchise. The impulse giver of the Workshops, Dr. Mohammed Awad comes from the field of the public administration and lectures on the topics of Franchise, democracy in the Palestinian facilities, freedom of speech and participation of women in the politics.

The Workshop encloses 40 hours and ends on the 18th of September. 25 women at the age from eighteen to sixty years take a share. At the end of the Workshop every

Participant receives a certificate.

This program will also be held in Ramadin and Al-Karma for one month in each region. It will be directed to women to increase their awareness in rural areas about the importance of democracy in the Palestinian Institutions, the importance of their participation in elections, and how to express their views freely.
