Opening of the Al-Kasaba Film Festival

The Al-Kasaba Theater and Cinematheque has inaugurated its fourth International Film Festival on October 8th 2009 in Ramallah with a prestigious ceremony.

After opening speeches and honoring the supporters of the festival, one of which is the Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung, the opening film ”Amreeka” was screened under the presence of its director, Cherien Dabis.

The more than 400 visitors of the ceremony, including several guests of the political and cultural field, closed the successful evening with a reception, held in the Theater Restaurant.

The opening ceremony was broadcasted live on the Palestinian Satellite Channel.

Between October 8th and October 22nd, the Al-Kasaba International Film Festival will present 65 films from 24 countries most of which have been nominated or awarded at international Film Festivals, such as Cannes or the Berlinale.

The screening of the movies will take place in Ramallah, Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Nablus and will be attended by famous guests such as Thierry Frémaux, director of the Cannes Film Festival and several other international actors and film directors.

In cooperation with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, screenings will also take place in the refugee camps of Jenin, Dheisheh, Jalazon, Balata and Aida. On these occasions the screening will be followed by seminars and public debates with the audience.
