POPULATION & DEVELOPMENT BOOK LAUNCHED IN CONGRESS

The Book “The Ties that Bind: Population and Development in the Philippines” was re-launched in Congress last August 17, 2004. Five of the prominent members of the House Committee on Population and Development attended and made their remarks on the significant and timely publication. This included Congressmen Gilbert Remulla, Josefina Joson, Solomon Chungalao, Del De Guzman and the author of the controversial bill on the two-child policy Cong. Edcel Lagman. Around 50 staff members of the Congressmen’s offices including chief of staffs attended the launching and lecture.

Dr. Arsenio Balisacan, one of the authors of the book, presented his findings on the Population and Poverty Nexus: The Philippines in Comparative East Asian Context.

The event was jointly organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, AIM Policy Center, Philippine Center for Population and Development and the Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development.

Another launch and lecture is slated on September 7, 2004 at the Senate. This is part of the conscious efforts of the Foundation and partner institutions to bring the message of the book to the policymakers.
