Expert talk
Details
Konrad Adenauer Foundation, together with the Consortium for Political Party Reforms and the Institute for Political and Electoral Reforms, recently organized a Roundtable Discussion on Political Party Reforms in the 16th Congress on October 7, 2013 at the G Hotel in Malate Manila.
A host of political analysts, political scientists from the academe, members of the Senate, members of the House of Representatives and members of political parties participated in the roundtable discussion. Mr. Ramon Casiple, Executive Director of the Institute for Political and Electoral Reforms, moderated the event.
The discussion focused on recent moves by the House of Representatives to quickly pass the Political Party Development and Reform Act in the current Congress, since it was already passed previously in the last Congress. The discussion also centered on how civil society and political parties can coalesce to put political pressure on stakeholders, particularly the government, to pass the necessary measures in support of needed political reforms to be done in the country.
Dr. Peter Koeppinger, Resident Representatives of the KAS in the Philippines, also shared valuable observations on the Philippine Political System and how it can best move forward by passing important political reform measures in the Upper and Lower House.
