Study and Information Program
Details
Climate change poses a significant threat to global sustainability, with its impacts increasingly felt across the world. Small countries, particularly in South Asia, are among the most vulnerable to climate change due to their limited resources and susceptibility to extreme weather events. Green finance, which encompasses financial mechanisms aimed at supporting environmentally sustainable projects and initiatives, plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change and promoting sustainable development. Additionally, recognizing the efforts of countries that have successfully minimized or eliminated carbon emissions is crucial in incentivizing global cooperation towards achieving climate goals.
In response to the global crisis induced by climate change which causes far-reaching environmental, social, and economic implications, the concepts of Green Finance and Environment and Social Governance (ESG) have gained prominence as key pillars of sustainable development and responsible investment. Climate change, green finance, and ESG principles are interconnected concepts that play pivotal roles in shaping sustainable development pathways and addressing the climate crisis. By integrating environmental, social, and governance considerations into investment decisions and corporate practices, stakeholders can contribute to a more resilient, equitable, and environmentally sustainable future.
With the support of RECAP, COSATT consecutively organised similar summer school programmes in Nepal in 2022 and 2023 where participants from all over South Asia had the opportunity to participate, learn and exchange their knowledge and experience.
The International Summer School on Climate Change aims to provide young scholars from South Asia with a comprehensive understanding of climate change and its impacts, promotion of renewal energy and wide-ranging knowledge of green finance and its implications for small countries in the region. Specifically, the program aims to explore the challenges and opportunities related to accessing the Green Finance Fund, a key financial mechanism designed to support climate-related projects in developing countries. It will also empower and encourage young participants to advocate for the mobilization of green finance to support climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts regionally and globally.

Limited free slots are made available for South Asian students and scholars interested in environmental science, renewable energy, and climate change. All costs for traveling and accommodation will be covered.
