Reliable and affordable access to modern energy services is a critical input and catalyst for improving the productive capacities and welfare of rural, isolated communities, thus leading to poverty eradication and sustainable development. However, the extension of national grids, in most countries, is too expensive to cover these isolated areas. Properly scaled renewable energy systems now offer stand-alone (off-grid) electric generation systems that are practical, reliable, durable, and affordable.

The main objective of the workshop is to provide an opportunity to strengthen capacities of political, administrative and business decision-makers in the field of policy framework setting and implementation of rural energy access. The project aims at identifying best practices and lessons learned through sharing international and country-level experience in rural energy-access to date. Opportunities for capacity building, technical cooperation, and exchange of experiences in Southeast Asia will be provided.
