Digital Decarbonisation: Perspectives of new technologies

The aim of the event is to give a platform to discuss the newest development in decarbonisation with digital technologies like Distributed Ledger Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things in Asia-Pacific. Since Digitalisation is an important instrument for Energy Transition and an enabler of two main tendencies: Decarbonisation and Decentralisation, both thoughtful to allowing the Energy Transition to taking place. The potential transformative effects of Digital Technologies and Digitalisation are vast. It may be necessary to make some direct investments and leverage incentives in society to accelerate the development of better technologies, thereby pursuing long-term decarbonisation achievements. The event starts with a story telling perspective gained from the science fiction genre to new technologies and climate change. The event is a closed workshop. Participation only by personal invitation.

KAS RECAP is supporting the Climate Finance & Sustainable Investing Conference 2019 with World Green Organisation and UNESCAP.
UNESCAP will co-organize with WGO a major UN conference, focusing on key Sustainability themes and Financial topics. UNESCAP will send their key representatives, including the Chief of Financing for Development Section, Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division to Hong Kong. Also, the United Nations will be inviting key government officials globally and distinguished speakers/experts to participate in the event.

Digital technologies are transforming our ways of living in every sphere. Since 2018, the United Nations is closely examining how digital cooperation can contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The core question is, how digital advancement can facilitate the debate on sustainability. KAS RECAP will invite key stakeholders in the local sustainability field in Hong Kong to discuss the key findings of the UN's report on the implications of digitalization for human development.

Emission reductions in the electricity sector will be paramount if the Paris commitments of reducing global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius are to be attained. Laufen ist mehr als eine alltägliche Pflicht. Es ist ein wesentlicher Faktor, damit sich Städte schadstoffarm und lebenswert entwickeln. Viele Verwaltungen haben Konzepte zum Fußverkehr in ihre Stadt- und Mobilitätsplanung aufgenommen. In einer Stadt mit einer hohen Bevölkerungsdichte und begrenztem Raum wie Hongkong indes ist der Weg hin zur Gestaltung einer fußgängerfreundlichen Umgebung nie geradlinig. Der Austausch von Erfahrungen europäischer und asiatischer Städte muss weiter ausgebaut werden, damit beide Kontinente auch zukünftig wegweisend in der Gestaltung urbanen Fußverkehrs bleiben.

Guided by experienced journalists from Germany the participants developed concrete projects, which will conducted in the field in the coming weeks.

South and South East Asia are among those regions which are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The Future of Coal and Chances for Clean Coal

A two-day workshop, organized by KAS’s RECAP and King’s College’s EUCERS and supported by the Atlantic Council and the National University of Singapore, on the future of coal and CCS technology was held on 5th and 6th May in Seoul. Experts from 11 countries had a debate on the present and future role of fossil fuels from a global and regional perspective and the potentials of technical development on clean coal.

Southeast Asia is playing a crucial role in mitigating the climate change due to its large potential of natural resources and its fast growing economies in the region.
