KAS Regional Program Energy Security and Climate Change

Focusing on the MENA region

In October 2017, the newly established KAS Regional Program Energy Security and Climate Change Middle East and North Africa (REMENA) based in Rabat, Morocco started operating. REMENA is the fourth Regional Program established by KAS worldwide since 2011 aiming to work with a trans-regional focus on the topics of energy and resource security as well as the challenges of ongoing climate change.

The REMENA office is headed by Daniela Diegelmann. Since 2009 she has been working for the Department of European and International Cooperation (EIZ) of Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation (KAS), recently from August 2014 until March 2017 as Desk Officer in the Middle East and North Africa Department. In addition to supervising the KAS offices in the Maghreb countries, she coordinated the climate and energy projects of KAS in the Middle East and North Africa.

In the upcoming years, the Regional Program aims at organizing trans-regional activities with local partners in the MENA region. With a view on the upcoming challenges regarding global warming, the Regional Program will mainly focus on possible cooperation in resource security issues, sustainable water supply as well as possibilities to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change for the region.
