As part of the meetings on climate and sustainable development goals, KAS-REMENA organized in partnership with Innovative Development Initiatives an introductory session from 4 to 6 February 2022 in Tetouan, Morocco. This intervention focused on the need to integrate the climate dimension in the development plan being prepared by the municipality of the city, which was represented at this event by elected officials and administrative staff responsible for the preparation of the plan mentioned above. 

 

In this sense, this meeting saw the participation of all actors in the development of the city: local authorities, local communities, private sector, press and civil society. The speakers have emphasized the importance of osmosis that must prevail between all partners in order to grasp the environmental issues of the city of Tetouan and its surroundings and try to solve them through the dynamics that will be created by the consultations that will take place during the next consultation meetings.  

 

During the event, all the Stakeholders in the city agreed on the urgency to unite their efforts and seize the opportunity presented by the current context to evaluate the previous plan and develop a new one more sensitive to climate issues. The ambition is to make Tetouan a model in terms of compliance with climate commitments and to become the first municipality to voluntarily publish its report on the implementation of sustainable development objectives.
