“Climate Change and Global Governance“ - Regional Programme Gulf States
Workshop
Details
Undertaking measures to curtail global warming and to address the effects of climate change on a global level are sensitive issues that are controversially discussed worldwide. The UN Climate Change Conference COP18 that is currently taking place in Qatar brought these issues back to the centre of public attention, as a large number of politicians, scientists and experts from around the world have gathered in Doha to discuss new approaches and solutions.
Climate change does not solely result in global warming, but also effects international regimes to a large extend. Then are confronted with serious challenges regarding human rights, trade, territorial sovereignty and migration. In this context, legal responses and global responsibilities gain increasing political significance, as they encompass legal and policy responses to climate change, e.g. through liability, jurisdiction and litigation. These aspects will be discussed on December 4th in a workshop organised by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung on “Climate Change and Good Governance”. The panel of the one-day event considers two KAS publications concerning global governance and responsibility in the context of climate change. One publication deals with the role of international regimes in a changing environment, the other with legal responsibilities and responses to climate change on a global level.
