To better understand the processes behind these legislations, renowned experts are going to meet to discuss their research findings on 21-22 September in Doha, Qatar. For the second time, the Gulf Studies Center at the College of Arts and Sciences at Qatar University and the Regional Office Gulf States are bringing together experts on parliamentary issues from the region. The experts will deal with the legislative bodies of the Gulf monarchies, as well as with parliaments in Iraq, Yemen, Iran and the autonomous Kurdistan region.

A kick-off workshop in November 2015 laid the ground for the research project in Doha. Back then, the experts introduced their research plans with regard to their country of origin in a two-day event. Since then the researchers have elaborated on questions, such as how legislative processes influence their national policies, and how the councils are perceived by the public.

In the upcoming workshop, the researchers will present their recently collected insights and further discuss their analyses. At the end of the project, reports about each country’s legislative body will be published in a book.

The research project is the 6th cooperation between the Gulf Studies Center at Qatar University and the Regional Office Gulf States.
