Details

The project “Sharaka” aims at intensifying cooperation and enhancing understanding between the European Union (EU) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Public events are key for achieving these goals and for bringing people from the Gulf and Europe together. The second lecture series in this framework is held in Kuwait on 15 April, in Dubai on 16 April and in Bahrain on 17 April. Dr. Nathalie Tocci, deputy director of the Italian research centre Istituto Affairi Internazionali (IAI) will give an introduction to EU’s Foreign Policy in the Mediterranean and its challenges as well as opportunities. In all three events, the lecture will be followed by a panel discussion, providing renowned local participants with the opportunity to discuss with Dr. Tocci and the audience. The cooperation is supported by the Center for Gulf Studies (CGS) of the American University in Kuwait, the Zayed University in Dubai and Sharaka partner Derasat in Bahrain.

About Sharaka:

SHARAKA is implemented by a consortium of five organisations from Europe and the Gulf and was officially launched in May 2012. The two-year project is co-funded by the European Commission and aims at exploring ways to promote relations between the EU and the GCC. SHARAKA implements an interdisciplinary and multi-method approach, combining policy-oriented research, dissemination and outreach, as well as training activities in a comprehensive and synergetic framework. The overall project objective is to strengthen understanding and cooperation in EU-GCC relations. Particular attention is given to the areas identified in the Joint Action Programme of 2010, including key strategic areas of mutual interest including economic, financial and monetary cooperation, investment, trade, energy, environment, transport as well as education and scientific research.

The official Sharaka website (www.sharaka.eu) includes project-related news, upcoming events and activities, as well as useful links.
