Journalist Seminar in Abu Dhabi successful

KAS Regional Program Gulf-States and National Media Council of Abu Dhabi train Emirati Journalists

Nine Emirati journalists successfully completed the first journalism training course offered by KAS Regional Program Gulf-States and the National Media Council in Abu Dhabi. During the week-long intense course the participants learned about the basics of journalistic research and writing. Dr. Muhammad Ayish, Media Advisor at the Office of the Chairman of the National Media Council and Jochen Markett, Journalism Trainer at KAS, devoted the first two days to reviewing the basic tools of good journalistic work and reemphasizing the importance of complying with these.

Carsten Kühntopp, Foreign correspondent in Dubai for ARD-radio, visited the seminar and shared his experiences as a long term reporter in the Gulf-Region. He gave in interesting insight into the cultural challenges a foreign correspondent faces when reporting from Arab countries.

The following days the journalist put theory to practice and ventured out to research a news story as well as a topic for a longer reportage. The interesting results were later compiled and layouted. All stories were offered to the respective employing news media of the participants, some of which were successfully placed and published in newspapers.

The next Basic seminar will take place January 29th – February 3rd in Abu Dhabi and will be followed by further specialized courses throughout the year.
