LECTURE BY PROFESSOR DR. GODELIEVE QUISTHOUDT-ROWOHL, MEMBER OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AT HIGHER COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY

Her visit to the United Arab Emirates signalled the great potential Professor Dr. Godelieve Quisthoudt-Rowohl sees in the cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the Gulf-States. The project of European Integration could serve as an example for the integration efforts undertaken by the Gulf-Cooperation Council (GCC).

Professor Dr. Quisthoudt-Rowohl’s lecture at the Higher College of Technology was an important stop on her travels throughout the Emirates. She talked to the students about the European integration process and the ongoing financial crises in Europe. Dr. Quisthoudt-Rowohl, a Member of the European Parliament, advocated a strong Europe and stated that Europe can serve as a positive example to many other countries including the GCC. In an engaging dialogue with the students, she gained a valuable insight into the development of the Emirates and several success stories of Emirati women in today’s politics, society and economics.

Professor Dr. Quisthoudt-Rowohl also met with several leading UAE politicians during her stay. On the occasion of the Annual Energy Conference at the Emirates Centers for Strategic Studies and Research she had a meeting with the UAE Minister for Energy Mohammed bin Dhaen Al-Hamli and discussed with him chances and risks of nuclear energy and the challenges we are faced with when using Renewable Energy.

In her position as Member of the Committee for International Trade Dr. Quisthoudt-Rowohl also met with Hamad Al Mass, Executive Director & Assistant Undersecretary at the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, with whom she exchanged news on the current state of the Free Trade Agreement between the EU and the GCC. Dr. Quisthoudt-Rowohl visited the UAE on invitation of the Regional Program Gulf States to further raise the awareness about Europe within the Gulf region.
