Symposium: "Towards a Rule of Law State: Challenges and Aspirations"

A collaboration with the Human Rights Center (HRC-BAU) and the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Beirut Arab University

On the 15th November, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Rule of Law Programme Middle East and North Africa, in partnership with the Human Rights Center (HRC-BAU) and the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Beirut Arab University organized a symposium, under the title of “Towards a Rule of Law State: Challenges & Aspirations".

A whole day round table in cooperation with the Lebanese Foundation for Permanent Civil Peace (LFPCP) in Beirut, Lebanon.

On Friday, the 24th of September 2021, the Rule of Law Program Middle East & North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), in cooperation with the Lebanese Foundation for Permanent Civil Peace (LFPCP), organized a one-day round table and discussion session entitled “Legislative Effectiveness and Efficiency - Promoting and Supporting the Implementation of Laws”. The workshop took place at Kempinski - Summerland Hotel, with the participation of Jurists, Judges, MPs, Ministers and Civil Society actors.

Towards a national legal framework for political parties in Lebanon, the gate for an efficient democracy

Round tables and debate sessions in collaboration with the International Center for Human Sciences (CISH) - UNESCO, Byblos, Lebanon

On the occasion of the International Day of Democracy, from September 15th to 18th 2021, the Rule of Law Programme Middle East & North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), in cooperation with the International Center for Human Sciences (CISH) - UNESCO, Byblos, organized a series of round tables and debate sessions entitled “Towards a National Legal framework for political parties in Lebanon: The gate for an efficient democracy”. The four days' workshop took place at the CISH premises in Byblos and in person, where legal practitioners and political party representatives joined the debate.

The Right of Access to Information Law: A Step Toward Good Governance

Hybrid Conference in collaboration with the University of Saint-Joseph (USJ) in Beirut, Lebanon

On 8th July 2021, the Rule of Law Program Middle East & North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), in cooperation with L'Observatoire de la Fonction Publique et de la Bonne Gouvernance of the University of Saint-Joseph (USJ), organized a public hybrid debate on the topic: “The Right of Access to Information Law: A step toward Good Governance”. The two-hour hybrid debate took place outdoors at the beautiful USJ campus in Huvelin and was streamed live over zoom, so that the public could take part and join in the debate.

Radio Program the "The Constitution for All"

In October 2020 the Rule of Law Programme Middle East / North Africa has launched its new weekly radio program “The Constitution for All” which airs each Thursday live on Radio Liban. Hosted by Dr. Marie Ghantous, law professor and legal expert, the program receives renowned constitutional experts to provide entertaining insights on constitutional topics and developments, answering questions and comments received from the audience over the Phone, WhatsApp and Social Media!

Justice at the Heart of Good Governance

On July 15th, 2020 the Rule of Law Programme Middle East / North Africa, in cooperation with the Observatory for Public Service and Good Governance of the University Saint-Joseph (USJ), organized an online seminar on the Lebanese Administrative Judiciary. Under the topic “Administrative Jurisdiction – Justice at the Heart of Good Governance” students and the general public had the opportunity to exchange with legal experts and representatives of the civil society on current challenges and reform perspectives for Lebanon.

Judicial Training in the MENA Region

Fundamental Principles and Practical Training for Judges

In cooperation with the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies, the Rule of Law Programme Middle East / North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized the second conference on “Judicial Training in the MENA Region - Fundamental Principles and Practical Training for Judges - Regional and International Perspectives”. The workshop held in Kuwait City on December 3 and 4, 2019 focused on the significant role that the judicial training institutes play in the performance development of the judges and prosecutors in-service by providing continuous education and training programs.

Decision-Making Processes in Constitutional Courts and Councils

With the worldwide development and consolidation of constitutional review procedures, constitutional courts and councils are increasingly confronted with highly political and controversial questions. In this regard, the quality of judicial decision-making processes plays an important role in preventing political polarization and rendering decisions in accordance to the constitution that at the same time remain within the societal consensus and do not reflect any prior bias.
