During his visit to Rwanda, former German President Prof. Horst Koehler attended events of the KAS' Rule of Law Program for Sub Saharan Africa. He was accompanied by KAS Honorary Chairman Prof. Bernhard Vogel. Together with the Rwandan Minister for East African Community Affairs Hon. Monique Mukaruliza they participated in a conference which was convened by the KAS' Rule of Law Program for Sub Saharan Africa in conjunction with the Ministry of East Africa Community Affairs of Rwanda on 'Regional Economic Integration in East Africa - Partnership with Africa: Challenges for an African Social Market Economy' ' which was moderated by Prof. Hartmut Hamann from the Free University of Berlin.

In addition, former President Koehler and Prof. Vogel held a two-hour meeting with Rwandan president H.E. Paul Kagame on the sidelines of the Conference.

They also visited the Genocide Memorial and two training institutions in Kigali.

Further, they held talks with the Mayor of Kigali, commissioners from the National Human Rights Commission of Rwanda, representatives of the Business Community both local and foreign, representatives of various German development inistitutions/agencies in Rwanda and various members of the diplomatic corp including the US Amabassador to Rwanda.
