Im Mai 2007 finden in Rumänien zum ersten Mal Europawahlen statt. Zahlreiche Bewerber aus Rumänien stehen dann für die insgesamt 35 Sitze im Europäischen Parlament zur Wahl. Wie die Erfahrung in anderen EU-Mitgliedsstaaten zeigt, werden die Kampagnen für die Wahl auf europäischer Ebene von den Parteien immer auch als Möglichkeit genutzt, ihre Sicht der nationalen Politik deutlich zu machen.

Dieser Trend zu Vermischung nationaler und europäischer Politik bei der Europawahl ist Hintergrund der Konferenz zum Thema „European Elections between Domestic and European politics – sharing the best practices“. Die Veranstaltung findet am 8. und 9. März im „Cercul Militar National“ in Bukarest statt.

Hochrangige Mitarbeiter der EU-Institutionen, Diplomaten sowie Vertreter von Partnerorganisationen werden dort von ihren Erfahrungen auf europäischer Ebene berichten. An der Konferenz werden neben aktuellen EU-Parlamentariern auch Kandidaten für die kommende Europawahl teilnehmen. Im Mittelpunkt stehen vor allem Diskussionen über Funktionen und Mechanismen des Europäischen Parlamentes sowie dem Verhältnis des Parlamentes zu anderen europäischen Institutionen und den Mitgliedsstaaten.

Veranstaltet wird die Konferenz vom Rumänischen Zentrum für Globale Studien unter anderem mit Unterstützung des Team Europe, des Europäischen Parlamentes und der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.
