Details

The Promised Land project is a sublimation of Laszlo Vegel's vision of Novi Sad through theatrical performances "Neoplanta" (Novi Sad Theater) and the literary essay on Novi Sad "Promised Land - Life on the Limes". The essay was translated from Hungarian into Serbian, German and English and published by the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation. It was presented to the Novi Sad audience on March 4, 2022 in the Master Hall of the Novi Sad Fair, within the program „Migration“ of the European Capital of Culture Novi Sad 2022.

Teofil Pančić, journalist and literary critic, and Norbert Beckmann-Dierkes, director of the Konrad- Adenauer-Foundation in Belgrade, spoke at the book promotion. The moderator was prof. Dr. Vladimir Gvozden from the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad. The author himself addressed the audience with a recorded video message in which, among other things, he said:

"My literary work is related to Novi Sad. It was there that I experienced my successes and failures. Hopes and disappointments fought right here, right in my soul. Utopia and dystopia faced one another here. One of my literary role models, Thomas Bernhard, the Austrian writer I mention in this essay, was a fierce critic of Austria. It follows that I am not a writer of the Novi Sad idyll, but of the Novi Sad drama. I am writing about a city on the European frontier, where life is always full of tragic confusions and miraculous feats, which we are not even aware of. It may be our great drama to be proud of our delusions and to keep our feats a secret."
