Research methods and solutions to climate change

Research methods and solution strategies for climate change mitigation, adaptation and low carbon development were addressed at the workshop that was jointly held by the Mandela Institute and the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation South Africa. The discourse highlighted challenges due to global climate change and urged for greater responsibility in addressing the consequences thereof. The research approach introduced by the Mandela Institute seeks to contribute knowledge on how renewable energies could contribute to sustainable development, as well as to the needs of local communities.

Prof. Dr. Neuss opened the on “‚25 years since 2 February 1990: a Quarter Century of Building and Defending Non-Racial Constitutional Democracy” which was hosted by FW de Klerk Foundation and funded by KAS. High profile speakers like Former President of SA and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Mr FW de Klerk and Former President of South Africa Mr Kgalema Motlanthe delivered speeches.

Die Rolle von Sozialpartnerschaften und Innovation im Kampf gegen die hohe Jugendarbeitslosigkeit in Südafrika stand im Fokus einer Diskussion, die die KAS in Kooperation mit dem Mail & Guardian, der National Planning Commission (NPC) und der Deutschen Botschaft organisierte. Arbeitsmarktexperten und Vertreter innovativer Beschäftigungsinitiativen waren eingeladen, ihre Expertise und Erfahrungen vorzustellen und auszutauschen.

Alumni-Day

The KAS hosted this year an event for their Alumni. We spent a full day with our Alumni starting at OR Tambo to learn more about Lufthansa's A 380. Water Workshop

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung supported a two day water-awareness workshop hosted by the Center for Environmental Rights (CER) in cooperation with GroundTruth that took place from 20-21 October 2014 in the North-West Province.

Lehren aus der südafrikanischen Landreform

Bernadette Atuahene hat mit ihrem Buch „We Want What's Ours“ die erste Phase der Landreform zwischen 1994 und 2008 in Südafrika in über 150 Interviews evaluiert und ein international anwendbares Konzept der Wiederherstellung von Recht und Würde nach Zwangsenteignung durch den Staat geschaffen. Die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung hat mit Frau Atuahene Buchpräsentationen in Johannesburg, Durban, Kapstadt und Pretoria organisiert und finanziert.

Bericht zum Kolloquium

Am 3. und 4. September 2014 trafen sich auf Einladung der KAS bereits zum zweiten Mal Vertreter von Regierung, Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft, um sich über die Rolle der Sozialwirtschaft für nachhaltige Entwicklung in Südafrika auszutauschen und zu diskutieren. In Vorträgen und Podiumsdiskussionen fand eine rege Auseinandersetzung mit Fragen zur Förderung, Finanzierung und dem rechtlichen Rahmen für sozial verantwortungsvolle Unternehmen statt.
