The event was co-hosted and funded by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), a long-time partner of the Institute.

DDP and IJR: Social Cohesion Conference 2019 in Durban and Cape Town

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) together with the Democracy Development Program (DDP) partnering with various civil society organisations such as Diakonia, Institute for Justice and Reconciliation, Africa Unite and other; held a second annual social cohesion conference in Durban and Cape Town.

Constitutional Court Review 2019

On 29 and 30 August, South African Institute for Advanced Constitutional, Public, Human Rights and International Law (SAIFAC) hosted the annual seminar for the authors and editors of the Constitutional Court Review Journal. The aim of the seminar is to give authors platform to present their papers to their peers and editors and to get feedback before submitting their final drafts. The journal is an open-source publication which is devoted to analyzing the work of the South African Constitutional Court in the year preceding publication. The seminar was funded by KAS.

Municipal Stakeholders Cooperation Workshop: Partnerships to implement the objectives of the National Development Plan (NDP) – The role of churches and faith communities

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in cooperation with the Ecumenical Foundation of South Africa (EFSA) and the Right Reverend Bishop Sipuka of Mthatha (and President of the Southern Africa Catholic Bishops' Conference) hosted a dialogue with experts and leaders from both business and churches to explore how South African role players create a new "social contract" that addresses social justice alongside or with government programmes.

Book Launch in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town: Election 2019

The brand-new key reference work on the South Africa election, titled “Election 2019: Change and Stability in South Africa’s Democracy, edited by Dr. Collette Schulz-Herzenberg and Prof. Roger Southall, is now out in the bookstores. The book provides an indepth analysis of the 2019 elections. The contributors are well respected experts in their own right, some of whom have contributed chapters to the previous books on elections. During the week of 19th-23rd August, the Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), hosted book launches in cooperation with Jacana Media, Exclusive Books and Ike’s Books and Collectables where some authors presented their chapters and engaged with the audience.

Re-Imagining Public Accountability

Local Government Roundtable

Supported by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Afesis-corplan in partnership with Democracy Development Program (DDP) and the Pietermaritzburg Agency for Social Action (PACSA) hosted a civil society roundtable in Pietermaritzburg on the 28-29 August 2019, to reflect on the state of Public Accountability in Local Government.

"Community Media Needs to Strengthen Its Relationship with Civil Society and Communities"

The Democracy Development Programme and KAS held an Inaugural Media Summit aimed at enhancing and strengthening existing relationship between community media, civil society and communities; through long term solutions. This comes after an observation of detachment of community media from its civil society allies.
