KASSID Annual Meeting 2024

KAS Thailand aims to facilitate a discussion for young scholars to voice their opinions, thus empowering them to become active global citizens. The workshop will feature Dr. Yared Akarapattananukul, Lecturer of the Faculty of Political Science and Law at Burapa University and a member of the KAS academic network, as a speaker on the topic "Democracy at a Crossroads: Youth Perspectives on Innovative Approaches to Democratic Resilience and Social Justice". In addition to its academic focus, this workshop will serve as a networking platform for current KASSID scholars and alumni, providing opportunities for introductions, idea exchanges on potential project collaborations, and presentations of academic papers or social projects in which they are involved.

Thailand's 2017 Constitution has been a subject of controversy due to its origin under the military junta. The demand for its amendment was central to the 2023 general election and the 2020-2021 mass protest movement. According to a study approved by the cabinet, a series of three referendums are required to gauge public opinion. Amending the Referendum Act, B.E. 2564, is seen as a crucial first step toward facilitating constitutional amendment.

Seminar on Problems and Obstacles in Execution of Decree Ordering State Agencies to Comply with Building Control Act, B.E. 2522 (1979)

About 56 Officials from the Bureau of Decisions Execution (26 from the Bangkok Office in person and ca. 30 from 14 regional offices from the administrative court via Zoom) took part in the seminar “Project on Enhancement of Efficiency in Administrative Case Execution for the Fiscal Year 2023: Seminar on Problems and Obstacles in Execution of Decree Ordering State Agencies to Comply with Building Control Act, B.E. 2522 (1979)” organized by the Administrative Court in Thailand with support from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Thailand. The goal of the seminar was to improve the official’s legal execution of the Building Control Act, B.E. 2522.

The KAS office in Thailand organized the training session “KASSID Online Training 2023 – A Way Forward Career Opportunity” to help KASSID scholars to step into their working life smoothly. Dialogue Program EU-ASEAN as Strategic Partners for Growth and Prosperity

MP Gunther Krichbaum's Visit in Thailand

From 20th-26th March 2023, KAS Thailand organized a dialogue program for Mr. Gunther Krichbaum, Member of the German Bundestag and European Policy Spokesperson of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group, and Dr. Carsten Buchholz, Head of MP Krichbaum’s office, to meet with various stakeholders in Thailand as well as KAS cooperation partners. The topics discussed during this seven-day program included political and economic developments in Thailand and Southeast Asia, trade prospects between Thailand and the EU with the current negotiations of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two entities, democratic developments in the country and the civic engagement of the civil society, youth participation, and German-Thai cooperation. On this occasion, Dr. Céline-Agathe Caro, Director of the KAS Office in Thailand, led the visit and accompanied the visitors throughout the program.

The first-ever summit between leaders of the European Union (EU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), was held on December 14, 2022 to celebrate 45 years of cooperation between the two regional organisations. Against this backdrop, the German-Southeast Asian Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPG) and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Thailand Office in cooperation with the Asian Governance Foundation (AGF) hosted a hybrid roundtable discussion in the frame of the Europe in Review (EiR) seminar series on Europe-Asia relations to discuss about the summit and the outlooks for the future relations of the EU and ASEAN.
