President Erdoğan recently announced that Turkey intends to complete the ratification process for the Paris Agreement in time for the November UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow. How should the international community respond to the calls for increased cooperation around climate change? In what ways can this cooperation be improved? In what ways will Turkey’s decision to ratify the Paris Agreement impact Turkey and its contribution to mitigating climate change?

The change in U.S. administration as well as the political, economic, and societal implications of the coronavirus have redefined transatlantic policy dialogues and led to new priorities as exemplified by the calls for increased cooperation around climate change.

The Transatlantic Trends 2021 Survey was conducted in 11 countries representing all corners of the transatlantic community: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Responses, including those of Turkey's, regarding climate change were among the highlights of the survey. While 73% of the respondents in all countries where the survey was conducted said “the UN should do more on climate change,” 83% of Turkish respondents agreed. Similarly, while 69% of respondents in all countries where the survey was conducted said “their country should do more to combat climate change,” 83% of Turks agreed. It should also be noted that the field study was conducted in April and May before the forest fires and floods in Turkey as well as in many other countries.

The face-to-face event is by invitation only. You can register for the livestream at the following link:
