Details
Relations between the EU and Germany have been burdened for a long time. Fortunately, there are first signs that relations between Germany and Turkey in particular are gradually normalizing and that a dialogue at political level, despite many different points of view, is again possible. The talks of Andrianos Giannou, Chairman YEPP, and Stefan Gruhner (MdL / CDU), Chairman of the International Commission of the Young Union in Ankara and Istanbul, also aimed to exchange views and tackle common challenges.
At the meetings with Ibrahim Kalın, Speaker of the Turkish President, Christian Berger, EU Ambassador and Bartholomew I, Patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church, the issue was the normalization of relations between the EU and Germany and Turkey, resumption of the EU Turkey negotiations, EU-Turkey refugee deal and Turkey's contribution in refugee crisis. Other topics included the challenges of the joint fight against terrorism and the current developments in Operation Olive Branch in Syria.
At the center of the talks between the leader of the AKP Youth, Melih Ecertaş, was the discussion on the challenges for youth in Turkey and the EU. In particular, the fight against youth unemployment and the importance of promoting young entrepreneurs were discussed at length. Both sides agreed to deepen the political dialogue.
