Kick-off for the second cohort of the Media Challenge Fellowship 2019
The second cohort of young and emerging journalists started the Media Challenge Fellowship Programme on 5th-10th February 2019. Organized by the Media Challenge Initiative in partnership with DW Academy and KAS, 26 students from 12 universities in Uganda undergo an intensive 6-month multimedia journalism training. The first week of the Programme included practical trainings in online, radio and television combined with discussions and talks with professionals from different media sectors.
Kampala Students debate on Gender and Youth Empowerment
From 13th to 14th the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) hosted this year’s Regional Debate Competition in Kampala in cooperation with Action For Development (ACFODE). Together participants, judges and organizers created an effective forum for young people to engage in discussions on gender, democracy, good governance and youth participation. 32 students of Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Uganda Christian University and Kampala International University participated.
Unity in Diversity – Intercultural Dialogue for Peace in South Sudan
“Everybody’s culture matters.”
In South Sudan 64 different ethnic groups exist, each with its own cultural heritage, traditions and values. How can this rich diversity be used to promote the national identity and unity in South Sudan, the youngest state in the world? At our intercultural dialogue organized together with the Network of South Sudanese Civil Society Organizations in Uganda (NoSSCOU) and DHORAN foundation we brought together different stakeholders to discuss how intercultural dialogue can work as a bridge for effective peace-building in South Sudan.
Civic Engagement must transcend electoral boundaries – Jinja Youth Leaders advised
On 9th of February 2019, 26 young leaders from Jinja districts participated in a one-day training on political economy analysis, advocacy and social mobilization. The Political Leadership Advancement Laboratory (PoLA-LAB) is a youth focused political leadership training organized in cooperation with the University Forum on Governance (UNIFOG). POLA LAB is a one-day session that includes an interactive and participant-centered approach to promote a better understanding of the development challenges through a political economy analysis lens. The sessions also focus on designing better advocacy and political mobilization and facilitating conversations meant to promote constructive civic engagements beyond electoral periods and cycles.

A framing workshop by the Centre for Development Alternatives and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, critically evaluated the key question which the Reality Check research seeks to answer.
Promoting Good Governance and Collaboration among Local Leaders
From 7th-8th February, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung together with the Directorate for National Guidance (DNG) conducted a training for district leaders in Kaberamaido, in order to promote political pluralism and stronger collaboration among the appointed and elected leaders at the local government level.
Young & Emerging Leaders of 2018 are stepping “out of the YELP bubble”
Moving beyond the ‘self’ – from achieving personal success to significance in society – this was the guideline for the last seminar of the 2018 YELP class. From 25th to 27th January 2019, LéO Africa Institute arranged the graduation seminar at the Lake Victoria Serena Resort for the class of their Young and Emerging Leaders Project (YELP) in cooperation with the Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung and Stanbic Bank. The second cohort of the program comprises more than 20 outstanding thought leaders from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Zambia, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi that have backgrounds in media, social enterprise, politics, military, arts and business.
