Public Symposium "East-Africa's Rising Middle Class: Challenges and Opportunities"

Uganda's middle class is growing but requisite economic opportunities must be created to match this growth. Together with Goethe-Zentrum Kampala UGCS, we will organise a pubic symposium at Makerere University on the 16th of August to discuss the challenges and opportunities of a rising middle class. Besides awarding the winners of a Photo Contest – presenting lived realities of Kampala’s Middle Class – we are looking forward to a lively symposium discussing East-African perspectives on the Middle Class with the following panellists: Milton Ayoki (UG), Yamara-Monika Wessling (DE) and James Muriuki (KE).

Youth Leadership Training (POLA-LAB)

The political Leadership Advancement Lab (POLA-Lab) is a project aimed at mentoring a new breed of effective and reflective leaders with skills to deal with contemporary development challenges. Therefore, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and UNiFOG will conduct a one-day Training Workshop on Leadership Skills for youth leaders, youth representatives from civil society and selected student leaders.

South Sudanese Journalists in Uganda trained on Hate Speech Mitigation and Mobile Reporting

South Sudan finds itself mired in a complex web of social, economic and politicalconundrums that require multi-stakeholder approaches to find sustainable solutions.Journalists are one such stakeholder that plays crucial roles in creating avenues not only forsensitizing the general public and promoting access to information which is a fundamentalhuman right.

South Sudanese Artists and their role in Building Peace and National Unity

When artists use verbal and nonverbal communication strategies which challenge, teach and inspire, communities begin to idealize and disclose the hidden truths that are deeply rooted in their human experiences. It is upon this background that NoSSCOU, the network of south Sudanese civil society organizations in Uganda through their member organization, AnaTaban organized a public dialogue to discuss the role of the south Sudanese artists in promoting peace and national unity in the conflict ravaged country. The dialogue took place on 20th May 2018 at Makerere University.

Political Leadership Advancement for Kigezi Youth Leaders

On 12th March, 2018, 30 young leaders from Kigezi region were participants at day-long training on advocacy, social mobilization and political economy analysis. April 2018 would mark fifteen years since the commencement of the Kabake community radio programme. Uniquely, this radio programme has been consistently supported by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung for all these years singlehandedly making it the longest most sponsored radio programme in Uganda.

Inspiring a generation of Young and Emerging Leaders in East Africa

As part of a flagship youth leadership programme with the LeO Africa Institute, supported by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and Stanbic Bank, the second cohort of young and emerging leaders from the five EAC member states commenced their stimulating fellowship expedition in mid-April 2018.

Training for Journalists and Human Rights Activists on access to Information

From 16th - 18th April 2018, a workshop on Access to Information Act was held in Mbarara district hosted by KAS in cooperation with Hub for Investigative Media (HIM) to widen the knowledge of Journalists and Human Rights activists about the provisions of the constitutional instrument.

Enhancing civic education at the grassroots through reliable access to information

Continuous and effective civic education is crucial to strengthen democracy and good governance in Uganda. On 12th – 14th April KAS and HIM (Hub for Investigative Media) held a Training of Trainers Workshop for member organizations of GAIN Uganda, focusing on access to information in order to improve civic education trainings at the grassroots level.

Launch of Youth4Policy: 12 young Ugandans researching and analyzing public policy issues in Uganda and beyond

Youth4Policy is a joint initiative of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Centre for Development Alternatives aimed at empowering the next generation of Ugandan policy experts to meaningfully contribute to policy analysis and public debates. The 12 Youth4Policy Fellows were officially welcomed to the program at a comprehensive introductory seminar from 6th to 8th April at Méstil Hotel & Residences in Kampala.

Talking about Peace Building & National Unity in South Sudan with South Sudanese Church Leaders

On 10.04.2018, we collaborated with the Network of South Sudan Civil SocietyOrganisations in Uganda (NoSSCOU) to organize a roundtable discussion on the role of theSouth Sudan church leaders in Uganda in promoting peacebuilding and national unity.Various church leaders from South Sudan assembled to critically evaluate, learn and rethinkabout their work and what they can do to reduce the emotional and psychological impact ofthe conflict on South Sudanese refugees in Uganda.
