The keynote Address at the 2017 Edition of the #UgandaSocialMedia Conference was delivered by Rachael Akidi, the Editor of BBC Focus on Africa Programme. Her speech explored how and why Social networks, online news websites and blogs have become crucial alternative sources of information. The gist of her talk was that the “democratization of information” should not affect the quality of information.

South Sudan is at the brink of an international humanitarian crisis. The violence that erupted in July 2016, the same week of the country’s fifth independence anniversary has ushered in avalanche of violent contestations with no end in sight.
