During the past years, Uganda put effort on developing gender equality but it has only been a step into the right direction. There is a lot more to be done especially in politics, women are underrepresented.

Despite the fact that women in South Sudan account for over 60% of the total population, their participation in governance and nation building is almost negligible as they are not adequately represented in political and decision making processes. This is attributed to a host of factors like: discriminatory cultural traditions, abject poverty, high illiteracy rate among women, low economic power etc. Therefore, in order to amplify the voices of women, special efforts and strategies need to be developed and applied to include adequate women participation in national decision-making processes.

GAIN-Uganda intends to scale up its civic education engagement with the community as one of the ways to promote good governance and accountability at the local level in Uganda.
