South Sudan Journalists urged to be patient with the fragile state in the world’s newest capital
Workshop for Journalists in Juba
KAS in partnership with the Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) successfully held a four day training for journalists in South Sudan from 23 to 27 November 2015. Focusing on the role of the media in nation building and the promotion of sustainable peace in the world’s newest state, the media practitioners were skeptical about the government’s commitment to protect and promote the media in South Sudan. They called on their government to assure them of protection and also demonstrate to the media fraternity that they are a relevant player in the rebuilding of their country.

After an expert round table discussion in the morning of 19 November 2015, Hon. Betty Bigombe, Senior Director for Violence, Conflict and Fragility at the World Bank, held a public lecture on perspectives for sustainable peace and development in South Sudan at Makerere University. The University Forum on Governance (UNIFOG) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) invited students from Makerere University to the public lecture which was followed by a panel discussion.

Round Table Discussion with Experts on Sustainable Peace and Development in the World’s Newest State
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) invited experts from Uganda and South Sudan to discuss challenges and possibilities of the recent peace agreement in South Sudan. To find ways of a more effective work for KAS in South Sudan, the round table discussion contributed to identify promising areas for KAS to engage in a peaceful and democratic development in South Sudan. KAS was very glad to receive Hon. Betty Bigombe, Senior Director for Fragility, Conflict and Violence at the World Bank, as chief guest to give her input on the progress in South Sudan.
