Round Table Discussion with Experts on Sustainable Peace and Development in the World’s Newest State
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) invited experts from Uganda and South Sudan to discuss challenges and possibilities of the recent peace agreement in South Sudan. To find ways of a more effective work for KAS in South Sudan, the round table discussion contributed to identify promising areas for KAS to engage in a peaceful and democratic development in South Sudan. KAS was very glad to receive Hon. Betty Bigombe, Senior Director for Fragility, Conflict and Violence at the World Bank, as chief guest to give her input on the progress in South Sudan.

On 13 November 2015, the University Forum on Governance (UNIFOG) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) implemented the last of four youth debates in Mbarara and ended a successful countrywide series of youth debates. Students from the Western Region were invited to discuss meaningful youth engagement in democratic governance and find ways forward.

On 10 November 2015, Action for Development (ACFODE) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) held a Youth Democracy Forum which did not only address civil society and party youth, but also alumni from different universities who participated in the KAS and ACFODE inter-university debating competitions in 2013.

Strengthening the Demand and Supply Side of Local Governance in the Karamoja Sub-Region
The Governance and Accountability Inter-District CSO Network Uganda (GAIN-Uganda) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) invited elected and appointed leaders as well as representatives of the civil society in Moroto District to have a two day workshop on good governance and accountability. GAIN-Uganda and KAS developed a programme which is supposed to strengthen mechanisms for transparency and accountability in the district.

For more than a decade the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) has been giving out scholarships for distance learning programmes at the Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) in the fields of Democracy and Development Studies and Local Governance for students from Uganda and South Sudan. The meeting of current scholarship holders and alumni was held to improve the communication between the scholarship holders and KAS as well as building a stronger network among scholarship holder and alumni.
