Capacity Enhancement Sessions for Women Councillors in Pallisa District

Between 11 and 13 March 2014 Action for Development (ACFODE), a Ugandan women's rights organisation, held a highly successful workshop for female councillors in Pallisa District in cooperation with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). The aim of the workshop was to equip the female participants with the tools they need in order to successfully champion the interests of their constituents generally and those of women particularly.

EU Diplomats and Ugandan Leaders Discuss Public Sector Accountability

A high-level panel of EU ambassadors, Ugandan politicians and civil society actors has underscored the importance of a well functioning public sector which is accountable to citizens as a pre-requisite for achieving development and a just society. They, however, observed that for the case of Uganda public sector accountability is presently far from working frictionless and is mostly disturbed by pervasive corruption. This was the outcome of an intellectual discourse organised by KAS and ACFODE on the occasion of the Europe Day 2013.

Public Dialogue on the Role of State Institutions in a Democracy

A panel of high ranking experts from politics and the academia have underscored the importance of strong and clearly mandated state institutions to democratic development. They, however, noted that such institutions are presently lacking in Uganda. This was a consensus reached at the KAS supported dialogue organised by Makerere University Convocation (MUC), February 12, 2013.

The KAS-supported „Young Leaders Think Tank for Policy Alternatives“ has presented policy recommendations to improve the Ugandan education system. In a public dialogue at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala, the members of the Think Tank discussed their analysis of the problems in the education sector and their recommendations with experts and the interested public.
