Der Vorsitzende des Auswärtigen Ausschusses Elmar Brok, MdEP, war vom 2. bis 3. November 2016 zu Gesprächen bei den Vereinten Nationen in New York und der US-Regierung in Washington. Auf Einladung der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung traf er sich mit US Politik-Experten und Vertretern der deutschen Presse, um über Europa nach Brexit und die bevorstehenden US-Präsidentschaftswahlen zu sprechen.

Countries all over the world need to fight terrorism – citizens face mass surveillance, no-fly-lists and limited privacy rights as a consequence. Are these developments in line with the rule of law? Who protects our data collected by governments and how is it used? How do the laws of the U.S., Russia, Poland, Hungary and France approach the new threats of terrorism and other recent developments? Trying to find answers to these questions the Woodrow Wilson Center hosted a conference in Washington, D.C. and invited experts to discuss civil liberties and the rule of law in the age of terrorism.

November 2016. Jetzt richtet sich im Hauptwahlkampf der Fokus der Kandidaten nicht mehr vorrangig auf die Parteibasis, sondern auf das allgemeine Wahlvolk. Dabei könnten die Unterschiede unter den Kandidaten auch weiterhin größer nicht sein. Gilt Clinton als die ultimative Kandidatin des Establishments, gilt Trump als der ultimative Anti-Establishment-Kandidat, der disruptiv alles auf den Kopf stellen will.

What has NATO done to respond to Russia’s aggressive military force? At this year's summit in Warsaw, representatives from NATO member states agreed that a firmer stand against Russian military aggression is needed. This requires stronger leadership in NATO, as well as increased unity among its members. During an event at the German Marshall Fund on July 12th, 2016, Congressman Michael Turner (R-Ohio) and President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly stressed these points.

On May 10th, 2016, the Coalition for Fiscal and National Security released a statement analyzing the key issues concerning current national debt and its long-term impact on American security. The Coalition is a bipartisan group of distinguished officials convened by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation. Following the statement, the Peterson Foundation held the Fiscal Summit on May 11th, 2016, where members from the Coalition came together to present their findings and set an informed foundation for a more thoughtful fiscal policy debate among the Presidential candidates.
