A focus group with Iraqi men and women (cunducted April 13-25,2005) explored Iraqi reactions to the January 30, 2005 elections and attitudes and expectations toward the implemending constitutional process, including constitutional priorities, parlamentary competence, citizen participation and public access to information on the process and final document. They reveal a citizenry craving a say in its future yet fearful and frustrated by the violence and economic dislocation that currently characterize Iraqi life.

Auch die amerikanische Ölindustrie war stark betroffen, was zu hohen Benzin- und Ölpreisen führte. Die Experten der amerikanischen Think Tanks haben sich daher in den letzten Wochen intensiv mit möglichen Lösungsansätzen wie Energieeinsparung, Steuern, Hybrid-Autos, alternativen Energien und Deregulation auseinandergesetzt.

Die Bundestagswahl vom 18. September 2005 endete völlig überraschend mit Verlusten beider Volksparteien. Sie kommen gemeinsam auf 69,5 Prozent der Zweitstimmen. Dies ist das schlechteste Abschneiden der Volksparteien seit der ersten Bundestagswahl 1949, bei der die Volksparteien auf 60,2 Prozent kamen. Wahlgewinner ist die Linkspartei/PDS, die ihr Vorwahlergebnis mehr als verdoppeln konnte. Auch die FDP hat eines der besten Ergebnisse ihrer Wahlgeschichte erzielt. Wahlverlierer ist die SPD, die seit der letzten Bundestagswahl bei jeder Wahl Einbußen hinnehmen musste.
