To deepen its commitment to the development of the US-German relationship, the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security at the Atlantic Council has designed a program for a group of twelve young Americans and Germans between the ages of 25 and 35 years old. This program is being supported by the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation in Washington DC. The objective of the programme is to develop a policy framework that outlines out a strategy to strengthen the US-German relationship.

US-German relationship faces new challenges after the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification-25 years ago. Unification would not have been possible without the support of the United States. While official cooperation and interaction between Berlin and Washington continue to be robust on a wide range of issues, the German and American general public has grown less familiar with each other. In a globalized world it is a key priority to remain in a stable and well-functioning relationship with the transatlantic partners. Today, strengthening of this relationship has proven to be a pragmatic necessity rather than an affair of the heart. It is a challenge to identify ways to raise enthusiasm of the younger generations to actively engage in building a post-war US-German relationship.

The newly selected 12 fellows of the program are going to be presented next Wednesday at the reception hosted by the Atlantic Council.
