THE MEKONG FORUM 1

The changing geopolitical landscape in the Mekong and its implications for sub-regional countries

The role and position of Mekong sub-regional cooperation in the overall foreign policy of Viet Nam have been increasingly consolidated. The 13th Congress and Directive No. 25-CT/TW emphasized elevating multilateral diplomacy with the goal that Viet Nam "strives to play a pivotal role, leading and conciliating at multilateral forums and organizations of strategic importance to the country, by its capabilities and specific conditions". Cooperation frameworks in Asia-Pacific, including sub-regional cooperation, are identified as a priority in implementing multilateral diplomacy in the coming time.

Looking back to a Brighter future

The most flagship event of the year has been reaching. South China Sea International Conference is a premium regional security forum focusing on SCS issues and ocean governance. This year, the event will be paneled by around 40 high-profile speakers and prominent experts who will be joined by an audience of hundreds of on-site and online participants. They are senior officials, members of diplomatic corps, business executives, leading scholars and academics and informed public throughout the world. Book Review - Times of Uncertainty

National Policies and International Relations under Covid-19 in Southeast-Asia and Beyond

The VNU-University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-USSH) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) office in Hanoi co-host a book review webinar on “Times of Uncertainty - National Policies and International Relations under Covid-19 in Southeast-Asia and Beyond” on November 16th 2021. The main objective of the event is to inform scientific community in and outside Vietnam, practitioners and students about key results of the book which examines the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Southeast Asia region. Thereby, participants can further discuss how the success in combating the pandemic in 2020 and the worsened situation in 2021 in Southeast Asia have affected international relations and the internal stability of the affected countries.

10th Anniversary of Vietnam - Germany Strategic Partnership

Virtual Conference

The Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Germany established in October 2011 marked a new breakthrough in the bilateral relationship. Over the last decade, both countries have overcome many challenges to realize the Strategic Partnership with remarkable achievements in many areas. Political cooperation has been intensively developed through various bilateral and multilateral mechanisms. In terms of economy, Germany has been Vietnam’s largest trade partner among EU countries and contributed significantly to Vietnam’s economic development. About 300 Germany companies have invested in Vietnam with more than US$ 2 billion. Visible progress has been made in other realms, particularly education, security and defence. Vietnam - Germany relations have increasingly important meaning not only to each other, but also to interregional and global peace and prosperity.

Expert workshop on Vietnam’s Excise Tax Law

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation Vietnam and the National Assembly's Finance and Budget Committee jointly organized an event on November 17, 2023 in Ninh Binh with over a hundred people to discuss the contents of Vietnam's Excise Duty Law. The event was accompanied by expert knowledge from national and international speakers from the WHO and World Bank.

The 3rd Mekong International Forum in Ho Chi Minh City

On November 24, the 3rd Mekong International Forum was held in Ho Chi Minh City near the mighty Mekong River under the theme "Promoting Synergy among Mechanisms for Sustainable Growth in the Mekong Sub-Region". The event served as a platform for a joint exchange between the countries of the Mekong Sub-Region and investors in the region.

Workshop for the regional and sub-regional cooperation in East and Southeast Asia

Designed as a kick-off event for a series of workshops/seminars on regional and sub-regional cooperation, 120 participants took part on November 28, 2023 in Hanoi. The hybrid workshop was organized by USSH Hanoi and KAS Vietnam, it addressed regional and sub-regional cooperation in East and Southeast Asia towards a sustainable and innovative future.

THE ROLE OF CHINA IN GLOBAL GOVERNANCE

An International Sinology Symposium

On November 10, 2023, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) in collaboration with the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Vietnam and the Foundation for East Sea Studies (FESS), successfully convened the second International Sinology Symposium themed on "The Role of China in Global Governance."

The aim of the workshops is to deepen and broaden the knowledge and understanding of guiding principles and current challenges of German foreign and security policy among the target group of students, young professionals as well as senior lecturers and researchers. Assessment of Top 500 Vietnamese Private Enterprises (VPE500 - Report 2023)

Aiming to provide an efficient index for macro-economic management, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Vietnam and Vietnam Institute for Development Strategies (VIDS), Ministry of Planning and Investment, has launched a report on top 500 Vietnamese Private Enterprises (VPE500). The launching workshop attracted more than 150 participants.

Training on Prevention and Settlement of International Investment Disputes

A lot of knowledge has been exchanged in the training on prevention and settlement of international investment disputes which was co-organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Viet Nam and the International Law Department of the Ministry of Justice within the framework of the Rule-of-Law Dialogue between Germany and Vietnam.

Collecting opinions to revise the Law on Real Estate Business

The Law on Real Estate Business, after 8 years of enforcement, has loopholes and limitations that need to be supplemented and amended. The existing law contains unclear contents and overlaps with other legal documents such as the regulations on land use rights; on property transfer for industrial, tourism and services purposes. The National Assembly's Economic Committee in collaboration with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Vietnam organized two workshops to collect opinions to revise the Law on Real Estate Business in Ho Chi Minh City (July 31, 2023) and in Hanoi (August 2, 2023).
