In line with the discussions initiated by the actors of maritime security during the previous meetings, it was agreed to deepen the reflections and to maintain the framework of exchanges on the multiple challenges of maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, including the progress made in cooperation.
This year, the Program for Security Policy Dialogue in Sub-Saharan Africa (SIPODI) wanted the discussions on maritime security to be held in Côte d'Ivoire, a country that has demonstrated its leadership in this area for over 10 years. The Conference which will be organized in November 2021 by the Regional Office of the Foundation in Abidjan in cooperation with the Regional Center for Maritime Security of West Africa (CRESMAO) with the theme of regional dialogue on the security of maritime spaces, will bring together in Grand-Bassam, Côte d'Ivoire, various actors of the maritime issue.
The Grand-Bassam regional seminar aims to :
- take stock of the challenges of cooperation and pooling of efforts of States and international organizations in the framework of securing maritime areas in West Africa, particularly the Gulf of Guinea;
- Evaluate existing mechanisms and instruments, identify challenges and formulate clear and operational recommendations for decision-makers within the framework of better management of maritime security;
- to question, in the short, medium and long term, the future of cooperation issues on the security of the maritime spaces of West African States;
